VHI "Black in the 80s-Color TV" helped my understanding of Spike Lee's film “School Daze” in many ways. One specific way was in this scene about style and trends in the 1980s and then after that, it cut to Whitney Houston's first hit song. One of the commentators said that she was “pre-Beyonce”. In that video, I noticed that Whitney Houston's skin tone was kind of made to appear lighter than it really was and she wore a blonde wig. It kind of reminded me of that sorority scene where colorism was hinted at during a particular scene. It was a comparison and contrast between light skin Black women with a looser hair texture and dark skin Black women with curlier hair.
